REVIEW: The Netherfield Affair by Penelope Swan

Book one of the Dark Darcy Mystery series.

Book Blurb: When Elizabeth Bennet goes to stay at Netherfield Park to keep her sick sister company, she is surprised by eerie noises in the night and ghostly faces at the attic windows. Could the rumours about the country manor being haunted be true? Then a midnight encounter with a tall, dark stranger thrusts Elizabeth straight into the path of scandal and danger. As she races to unravel the mystery, she finds unexpected assistance from the handsome but arrogant Mr Darcy. Is such a proud, reserved man to be trusted?

My Review: This book takes place when Jane is at Netherfield during her period of being sick from having to ride over there in the rain. As you know Elizabeth goes over there to take care of her but before she goes she hears rumors about a highwayman in the area called Wicked George. Also Lydia tells her that Netherfield is haunted. The first thing Lizzy sees when she arrives at Netherfield is a ghostly figure in a upstairs window.

Almost as soon as she gets there items in the house start missing starting with Caroline's pansy broach. Eventually Darcy hires a thief-taker who happens to help catch the culprit very slightly. He also tries to bribe Lizzy when he finds Darcy's fob watch in her rooms.

I have to say I don't really think that this book was much of a mystery as more as a who had done it. For the first book in this series it's a nice start and I'm looking forward to reading book two.

Rating: ★★★★☆
